It’s no secret that there are a lot of good cleansers in the market. But don’t you find it ironic that despite the hundreds of choices that are available to us, it’s never easy to find the perfect match for our skin?
Like most of you, it was a challenge for me to find the perfect cleanser. In fact, it still is! I had a go to cleanser that I truly loved but moving to a new city with kind of a crazy weather definitely kicked me back to square one.
I have tested quite a lot of skincare products since I got here in Dallas but I still have not assembled my skincare dream team just yet which is frustrating because spring is just around the corner so I may have to switch some things up again very soon.
Anyways, just stick around and I’ll make sure to keep you posted on this skincare hunt.
Today’s SSD is featuring Fresh Beauty’s Soy Face Cleanser. Cleansing is the foundation of our skincare routines so I’m a little bit picky on the cleansers I use. You wanna start your routine right.
Fresh Soy Face Cleanser is no newbie in this business. This has been raved about by many bloggers and beauty gurus on YouTube for a while now. I know some friends who do not mind spending 38 bucks for a 150-ml tube. This does come in a mini which is around $15. This is, without a doubt, a fan fave with over 5000 reviews on Sephora.com alone. Speaking of which, if you ask Sephora.com what this is, it’ll tell you that this is
“A bestselling, do-it-all cleanser for all skin types that instantly removes makeup and dirt without drying the skin.”
DO-IT-ALL-CLEANSER . Now, that’s a bold statement, isn’t it? They claim to work with all skin types and will wash off the dirt on your face, even your mascaras, without drying your skin.
I got three sample packets of this cleanser. I have no idea how I got them but it’s either a freebie from my online Sephora orders or must be some of those samples Angel, from Sephora NorthPark in Dallas gave me.
First of all, I found the consistency a little weird. That must be because I don’t use gel cleansers quite a lot. It’s not bad; just something I’m not used to. Each packet could be good for 2-3 uses depending on how much product you want to put on your face. I think I have already established that I love foam cleansers so if you are suckers for foam cleansers, you can stop reading this review right this very second and check out my other blogs. This doesn’t give you a lot of foam. I am pretty sure it’s just designed that way.
One day, I wanted to see if I could get more foam so I used half of the sample pack and this is how it looked. Again, not for the foam lovers.
I do wanna mention that the entire time I was washing my face using this cleanser, all I could think about is how gentle it felt on my skin. It’s addictive! I just wanna keep touching my face.
For y’all who are sensitive to scents, this paragraph is for you. Almost instantly, I noticed that this has a strong cucumber-ish scent. I swear, I am not the best in explaining scents but that was the 1st thing that came to mind when I smelled it. It could be refreshing to some but may be a deal breaker to others. Not everyone loves cucumber scents! Personally, I really didn’t mind.
I usually get tiny bumpies all over my face whenever I introduce a new product in my skincare routine but they usually disappear after two days or three. This did give me little bumpies after Day 1 of using it. These bumpies, however, stayed for more than a week.
I don’t know if you can clearly see them on the photo but I did get some tiny bumpies on my forehead, in between my brows and on my cheeks area. I took this photo on Day 4. Nothing really crazy or alarming but I thought that’s worth mentioning. I think it’s an important consideration especially if your skin is sensitive.
I wanted to see if they can truly remove mascaras so I tried their beauty tip on removing heavy makeup. I applied this cleanser on my dry skin and removed my eye makeup using a circular motion. It reminded me of how I remove my eye makeup using my Clinique Take The Day Off Balm but this one’s just a little bit more wet than the balm. It did remove my eyeshadow and eyeliner but didn’t remove my mascara completely. In this photo, I am wearing Benefit Cosmetics’ Bad Gal Bang mascara.
It’s possible that I wore too much coats that day or this specific mascara is just too strong for this cleanser. Again, I was working with samples so I didn’t have the luxury to use more products to test this claim with other mascaras. It probably will do the job for other mascaras or if you use more product to remove your mascara.
I used this cleanser for 5 days. I only use a face cleanser at night because my cheeks and mouth area transform into a desert if I use too much facial cleanser on my face. When I was on my last sample packet, I used this in the morning and before I went to bed that night. I wanted to see if it will dry out my skin if I use it twice in a day. I was so happy to see no dryness on my face the next morning. That was a huge thumbs up for me!
This can definitely wash off your makeup. Just do not expect this to remove all the mascaras you will wear so you don’t get disappointed. I still recommend you use a toner after cleansing just to be sure that you remove every piece of makeup off your face especially if you love wearing full coverage base.
I did not feel any dryness the entire time I was using this so that’s a major thumbs up for me.
Its gentleness on my skin is something I truly loved about this product. This didn’t burn so I think it is safe to use around your eyes. I’ve used a few cleansers that I had to throw away after a few uses because it just hurts my eyes big time. I just hate that. This one is indeed very gentle!
Are the samples enough to make me love the product? You’ll love how gentle it is on your skin but one may stop using it if she gets bumpies after using just one sample pack. It wasn’t love at first sample pack for me so I strongly recommend you buy the mini for $15 so you can observe how your skin reacts to it. Then, decide whether or not the product is staying in your bathroom or going to the trash or for donations.
Is it worth investing on? Overall, I think it’s an awesome everyday cleanser especially for folks with dry and/or sensitive skin. I won’t mind spending $38 for a 150 mL tube. I think it’s worth it!
At the moment, I can’t recommend it as a makeup remover because I wasn’t really impressed with its performance. But, for the nth time, I didn’t have a lot of products to test this out as a makeup remover. I will try it some more in the future and will make sure to update this blog if I changed my mind on this or if I have anything else to say about this product as a makeup remover.
Would I purchase the full size? For sure but not in the near future. I have a ton of facial wash/cleansers that I still need to try and review that I don’t see myself purchasing or repurchasing more cleansers anytime soon.
Is this your holy grail cleanser? What do you love most about it? Let me know in the comment section below.
