Same Shades. Two Formulas. Which EB Matte is better?

Disclaimer: It was a little challenging to get a hold of all shades especially that I am not  currently in the Philippines. So, I am only using Two shades for this review – Toast of New York and Vivid Violet, my ultimate faves from the collection.

Is it just me, or do you also find movie sequels often disappointing?

Whenever a fave movie releases a sequel, I always get excited but usually end up dissatisfied. I felt the same excitement when Ever Bilena announced that they are launching a liquid formula of my favorite lipsticks, their EB Matte lipsticks.

BUT did this lipstick sequel let me down too? You’re gonna have to keep scrolling if you wanna know.

I don’t even know when I first fell in love with Ever Bilena EB Matte Lipsticks. I do know that there are lots of you who are wondering about the similarities and differences of both formulas. So, let’s get into it!

We are all familiar with the classic EB Matte packaging. It is quite similar to L’Oreal’s Moist Matte Lipstick but I no longer own one so I thought of showing you how the lipstick look beside Maybelline’s Matte Lipstick and Estee Lauder’s Sculpting Lipstick.

It’s not the fanciest nor the most indestructible packaging but they are pretty classy and can survive a fall or two. Didn’t intentionally perform a drop test; I’m just naturally clumsy!

The liquid lipstick tube on the other hand, looks very similar to ColourPop’s. Just a tad bit smaller (vertically or horizontally) and has a black cap. I love how the labels are still intact even after mixing it with other makeup in my bag.

There’s really nothing crazy special about the packaging of both formulas but I really appreciate that I can see the color of the lipstick through the packaging.

EB Matte (Original) – P165 (varies)

EB Matte Liquid Lipstick – P195 (varies)

Both prices are very reasonable and affordable. Whichever you choose to buy or if you choose to buy both, these definitely will not make a hole in your pockets!

Personally, I find it so much easier to apply the liquid lipstick. I guess it’s because I’ve always sucked at applying regular lipsticks and doe foot applicators are just a tremendous help in achieving a cleaner and more precise lip look.

Let’s get one thing straight! The OG formula doesn’t dry completely matte.

Personal Tip : Dab a piece of tissue/napkin on your lips once or twice and it’ll be as matte as you’’ want it to be.

The liquid lipstick on the other hand, has a matte finish! It takes a while to dry completely but once it has set, it stays evenly matte for around 6 hours.

Both colors look gorgeous after just one layer. You really can’t go wrong with these lipsticks.

If there is one thing I love the most about these lipsticks, it’s how comfortable they are on the lips. Both formulas are lightweight and does not dry my lips at all.

If you are looking for a lipstick that will win your battle with oily meals, these aren’t it!

Although both can last a really long time, one oily food can wipe them off.

Based in my experience, both can survive your 8-hour shift if you don’t eat or drink anything (I could be obsessed with work but I don’t recommend this of course!). If you drink some water in between, prepare to touch up your lip buttholes once in a while. Your lips should look pretty and even after touchups so that’s a plus point!

Overall, such a steal considering its price!

Do the colors look the same?

One of the few questions I had was, are the colors of the new formula the same as the OG or are they way different? I am in love with their color selection so I really hoped that they achieved the same colors for the liquid versions.

What better way to answer this question than wear it side by side?!

I did a real time review on this on my Instagram where I wore the two formulas side by side.

Here’s a link to my compiled Insta-Review in case you wanna check it out.

Anyways, based on that little experiment, the answer to our question is, IT DEPENDS

Toast of New York looks almost 100% the same in both formulas while Vivid Violet liquid lipstick looks different. The liquid version is a bit deeper and more Purple-y than the original. Although both colors look really stunning, I love the new Vivid Violet a little bit more. Just a little bit.

How different is this liquid EB Matte from the other Ever Bilena Liquid Lipstick and the EB Advance LTD lipstick?

img_1535This one is the lightest and most liquidy among the three formulas which makes it the most comfortable on the lips yet the longest to dry completely. Ever Bilena Liquid Lipstick is probably the thickest but is also the most opaque. One layer is all you need!

EB Advance LTD could probably pass as the child of the Two formulas. It’s not as liquidy as the EB Matte Liquid but not as thick as the EB Liquid Lipstick. It’s creamy enough to be comfortable on the lips and pigmented enough to be good to go with a layer or two. It is by far, my fave liquid lipstick collection from the brand.

Which formula do I like more?

I have been enjoying my EB Mattes for years now and I’m still gonna grab them for as long as I can but I’m really loving the liquid formula more. It’s just more convenient and easy to apply. It lasts a little bit longer and it has minimal transfer on my coffee mugs.

I don’t have plans of saying goodbye to my original EB Mattes but their liquid versions are definitely stealing the show right now.

I hope you enjoyed this blog and do let me know which team you are in.

Are you #TeamOGEBMattes or #TeamEBMatteLiquids?
