No More Cracked Lips! Kaya Essentials Lip Balms Review

Kaya is a Filipino word that means “can do” !

img_2492It was the name of the brand, Kaya Essentials, that caught my attention first. I read what the brand is all about and I just can’t help but fall in love with it.

I was checking out their Instagram account to see how I can purchase it when I found out that they have an ongoing giveaway that time. It was a collab with another Pinay YouTuber in the US. A part of me was saying, YOU NEVER WIN THOSE GIVEAWAYS! but something was telling me to try my luck. So, I did!

A few days later, I found out I won. I finally WON! I was so happy!

Fast forwarding to today, I have now been using these Kaya Essentials lip balms for over a month. I thought it’s about time I share with you the reasons why I have so much love for the brand and the product.

I have personally tried 4 different flavors – Grapefruit, Honey and Coconut, Lavender and my ultimate fave, Calamansi. You can visit their website to see more details.

There’s nothing quite fancy about their packaging. It’s made of plastic and has a very minimalist vibe but I love that it’s very handy – so easy to slip into your purse or your jean pocket. It comes with a cap and a twistable bottom to get easy access on your lip balm. The colors on the label represent their different flavors.

Kaya Essentials lip balms cost $5 a piece and contains 0.19 oz. or 5.5 g worth of product.

I know what you’re thinking! Sure! You have used lip balms that are less than 5 bucks but let me tell you why this is worth every penny.

img_2496First of all, it’s not everyday you see a brand that enables you to give back! Every purchase you make from Kaya Essentials feeds a Filipino kid in the Philippines. One lip balm bought means one meal to a Filipino kid in need.

These lip balms are handmade in California using natural and organic ingredients from the Philippines. Sunflower Oil, Jojoba Oil, organic virgin Coconut Oil, organic Mango Butter and Beeswax are just some of the ingredients used for these lip balms. You can find the complete ingredients on the packaging.

This also has natural SPF 20 which is a perfect shield of protection from the sun.

The flavors are unique and have very subtle taste which I prefer. I’m not really a big fan of sweet or overwhelmingly flavored lip balms. This doesn’t taste medicine-y and doesn’t have any weird aftertaste.

This is probably the softest, most buttery lip balm I have ever used. It feels so good on the lips. You may wanna avoid pressing it too hard on your lips because again, it is so soft.

This also feels really lightweight and very comfortable on the lips. It’s not overly sticky.  It gives a good shine to your lips but doesn’t make them appear super greasy like you’ve just eaten Lechon – if you don’t know what that is, you have to Google it NOW! They’re pretty BIG in the Philippines. 😀

It glides smoothly on the lips and because it is a stick lip balm, it’s just so much more convenient to use.

img_2494I use this lip balm at least 3x a day. It’s part of my morning and night time routine – I swipe a layer of this before I go to bed and I still get amazed every single time I touch my lips in the morning. It’s already amazing that the product stays on the entire time I was sleeping but my lips just feel so soft and moisturized every morning.

During the day, I think I use this twice or thrice. One swipe can actually keep your lips moisturized for hours. It keeps your lips nourished and hydrated but it can’t really survive a meal and I love to eat (A LOT) so I reapply after each meal. It does disappear after eating a meal but my lips still feel moisturized – feels like the lip balm is absorbed by my lips.

My favorite way of using this is prepping my lips before I torture them with my matte lipsticks. I am obsessed with matte lipsticks and if you are into makeup, you should know how that can dry your lips big time. This just gets rid of dryness instantly and makes my lips look healthier.

Lately, I have also been using it to remove my stubborn lipsticks. I am not really comfortable using makeup removers to my lips – I’m just naturally paranoid. So what I do is, I apply this on top of my lipstick. Let it stay there while I remove the rest of my makeup off. Then, use a clean tissue to wipe it off. Makes the job so much easier and I don’t hurt my lips. No cracking. No bleeding. No drying.

These Kaya Essentials lip balms have been my go to lip balms and have been living in my purse, my bathroom, my jean pocket and my bedside table.

I definitely am repurchasing them and absolutely recommending these for you to try out!
